Life Out Of Balance – Koyaanisqatsi

By the end of the 70’s it had become very obvious to all who had lived through the optimism of the “dawning of the age of Aquarius ” that much work remained to be done to change the way mankind was headed. The nuclear era was extending into a state of continual preparedness for all-out war, the resources of the planet continued to be strip-mined in an ever escalating fashion, and man’s inhumanity to man had only ramped up to a fever pitch. In 1982 Francis Ford Coppola and Phillip Glass teamed up to make a film, Koyaanisqatsi, that encapsulated the angst of the time in a sweeping overview of all that was going wrong. There was no dialog in this epic  award winner, just a few timely warnings from the ancient Hopi people. “If we dig precious things from the land, we invite disaster”.  “”Near the Day of Purification, there will be cobwebs spun back and forth  in the sky.” “A container of ashes might one day be thrown from the sky, which could burn the land and boil the oceans.”
